September activities

We spent a weekend in Seattle to attend the wedding of the son of the man who was best man at our wedding 38 years ago.

The wedding was beautiful and we had great fun at the reception; there was much eating, dancing, and visiting.

Another weekend we had to split up to take in the activities. Patrick had his usual monthly gig with Hog Heaven Big Band at the Dahmen Artisan Barn so I went by myself to Spokane.

I helped out a bit there as Jakki is recovering from back surgery and then went to see Kelly playing with a band that he just joined, Fairmount Chase. Kelly's in the back on the right playing bass and wearing a red hat. As you can see there were lots of people dancing and enjoying the music.

The gig was at O'Doherty's Irish Grille.

So we fans had Guinness, of course, and enjoyed the music. Not sure what might have caused the blurry picture...

One morning this week as we were stepping out onto the back porch and heading off to work we were greeted by this little fellow. We've seen weasels around our place occasionally but none has ever come up to us so close! He was only about 2 feet away and moving so fast that it was amazing we managed to get a photo. I don't think he was any longer than 9 or 10 inches including his tail. Look fast before he scampers away! They turn white in the winter with just the tip of the tail staying black. What an acrobat!

And I finished a pair of socks just in time for the weather to turn cold.

Labor Day Weekend activities

Here's a salamander that was on the road as we were driving to work. Wonder where he lives. I hope he stays off the road where the grain trucks are flying past.

Friday evening the full moon brought our good friends Gail and Fritz from Olympia. They said the moon appeared just at the time where they were looking for the right road to turn onto. It must have been a sign!Saturday morning we started with the Moscow Farmers' Market. There were lots of people enjoying the music, the produce, handmade items (Gail scored an excellent local-made wooden salad bowl!), and the people, kids, dogs.

Then we drove north to the top of Steptoe Butte where we enjoyed the big view although it was not as clear as we would have liked. Some young fellow was enjoying the view from an even higher spot.

Next, we drove south to Uniontown where the Princesses found parking.
And we enjoyed some excellent brew and burgers at Eleanor's.

After filling up, we visited the Dahmen Barn and viewed the artists' studios there. It was quite crowded as there was a group of Scandinavian musicians from Seattle performing.

Sunday's activity was a trip to Corral Creek to inspect the work Patrick has been doing on the stream restoration there. We walked around quite a bit. I had no idea it was such a big project! Patrick has spent many hours planting trees, shrubs, and sedges. The weekend has passed so quickly but now it's time to get back to the regular routine. And I guess it means that summer is over when Labor Day is over. Sigh.

Activities

A couple of weeks ago we had a fun vacation with Emelie and Bob over in Glacier Park. We stayed at the ski resort in Whitefish. Here are a couple of photographers that got in the way of my taking pictures of the rushing stream along the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Our vacation has been well-documented photographically. Got a few spare hours for a slideshow? This morning the Hog Heaven Big Band played at the Moscow Farmers' Market. Here's the sax section doing their thing. I think they were glad that the temperatures have dropped about 30 degrees from a few days ago. Quite a large crowd at the market this morning.
And here are a coupl'a mechanics inspecting the new truck. The hollyhocks are blooming. The hummingbirds like them but of course, when I get the camera out, then the birds disappear. All is well at Shady Pines.

Look out! Fritz goes 60

We recently helped our good friend celebrate his 60th at a surprise party. Here is the photographic evidence. If I didn't have the pictures to prove it, I don't think I could believe it.

The party took place at the Swingside Cafe in Seattle. Good food, good friends.

Rock Band at Sinto Ave. Studio

What we're doing this weekend:

Here's the rock band...Here's the photographer...(using the camera built into the little Acer netbook)...

Everyone's having fun. Even Bob who's sleeping on the sofa. It's hot here in Spokane so we're enjoying the air conditioning of the indoors. Drinking iced tea. Well, and hot coffee, too. We're all full of BBQ'd meat items: buffalo steaks, sausages, and chicken.

Some of our recent activities

Since last weekend included Father's Day, that called for a trip to Spokane with entertainment provided by the progeny. Emelie & Bob took us out for a big lunch at the new Red Lobster and then Kelly & Jakki took us to the Spokane Indians baseball game. They whupped Yakima for our enjoyment. The game was followed by an excellent fireworks show, too.

Here are some pictures from the game. This is Kelly all ready in case a ball comes our direction......Bob and Emelie keeping a close watch on the action...
...The father enjoying the outing......And Jakki and I making the event into our own Stitch 'n' Pitch.Yesterday Patrick got up at o'dark thirty for a fishing trip with our friend Vaughn. Did you know you have to get up pretty dang early in mid-June to beat the sun up? Here are the happy fishermen at Dworshak Reservoir. And a not-so-happy smallmouth bass.
Then, just to prove I participate in my own sport, here's a picture of my winning entry in Extreme Dish Rack Stacking. And just because life is rather empty without knitting...here's a finished sock.

More weaving

I finished my second weaving project last night. Here it is at the start. I thought it would be a tea towel but I think the weave is too loose and the yarn too thick for it to be satisfactory for that task. Another table mat? ...I like it anyway...I used 4 skeins (50 grams each) of Saucy Sport 100% Mercerized Cotton: 2 of the purple and 2 of the light blue. The warp and weft are the same fibers. I finished the ends by hemming rather than making fringe. Do you like that houndstooth pattern? I do. I showed it off at the knitting group today and someone walked in and said, "I thought you were holding up some fabric." It is! Now it's back to the two pairs of socks I'm knitting, however, I'm already planning the next weaving project.
